RECOVERING WILD TROUT IN THE NOROTON RIVER

It wasn’t too far in the past when the Noroton River was a thriving ecosystem full of sea-run fish, wild trout and the heron, mink, osprey and other creatures that rely upon them.

And the future looks bright for recovering this local stream with a series of recent wins for fish passage and a combination of open space acquisitions, land use changes and more creating a window of time in which efforts to restore the stream, reconnect its tributaries and rebuild its habitat has potential to herald the rebirth of the river!

But we must act quickly and utilize the best available science to guide our work.

Join our efforts to study and assess the Noroton, identify and prioritize dam removal and habitat restoration projects and build a buffer around the river to improve water quality.

Trout Unlimited funded water quality monitoring on the Noroton River shows signs of improvement for the stream - and opportunities to further restore this important local river system.
